Introduction to SMO 254 Angle/channel
It is a very high-quality stainless steel. It has been designed taking care of its impact on toughness resistance from chloride stress corrosion cracking. It has twice the corrosion strength than that of stainless steel 300 series. It is also considered as a cost-effective substitute for cost consuming nickel and titanium alloys. It gives good workability also.

Composition and Properties:
It contains iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), Molybdenum (Mo), Nitrogen (N), and carbon(c). Its tensile strength is good and also had effective modulus of elasticity. It has excellent yield strength and hardness.
Similar Grades: Other grades that are nearly equivalent to SMO 254 are ASTMA813, ASTM A469, ASTM A269, ASTMA240, ASTM A182 (F44), ASTM A814, ASTM A312, and ASTMA249.
Some More Important Characteristics: Stainless steel grade SMO 254 is quiet tough in machinery work due to the absence of sulfur content. However, you can make it work in machinery by using sharp tools, enough lubrication. Using it in slow-speed machinery can provide good results.

It does not respond to heat treatment. Its hardening can be only done by the cold reduction method. Their working temperatures should not exceed beyond the limit especially for forging and upsetting work. To make it high corrosion resistance we need to perform a post-annealing process. For the welding of stainless steel grade, SMO 254 proper filler material is required. If the proper filler material is not provided it may result in poor strength of this material.
